Submissions

Thank you for your interest in submitting your academic writing to Miami Political Review. We are excited to consider your piece for publication. To get an idea of what we are looking for, do review the following submission guidelines. Submit at this link.

Rules for Submission

  1. All entrants must be undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at Miami University.
  2. Submit your piece in the submission form using your Miami University email.
  3. Label your submission as “Lastname_FirstnameMPRsubmission.” Do not include your first or last name in the body of your essay. Include the title of your piece on the document of your submission. Uploads must be uploaded as a .docx or .pdf file. Files will be anonymized before being sent to our review board.
  4. Include which class the submission was written for and which professor taught the course. If this piece is part of independent research or an honors thesis, include who your research mentor is.
  5. Pieces must pertain to current political science issues, defined broadly. We enthusiastically welcome pieces from students of all majors and courses of all disciplines, as long as it has tie-ins to political events or studies. 
  6. Papers must be at least 2 pages, double-spaced. Longer papers (20+ pages) may be considered at the review board’s discretion.
  7. AI generation cannot be used for any part of the writing process. Papers about AI are allowed, but in accordance with university policy and out of desire to minimize bias in our papers, the use of AI algorithms are not permitted.
  8. No hate speech will be tolerated.

Submission Tips

Not sure what to submit? Consider the following:

  1. Be original. Do not hesitate to submit papers on niche case studies — we look forward to reading your creative analyses.
  2. Look through papers you have recently completed for final projects or midterms for inspiration for what to submit. Be sure to revise/do a final readthrough.
  3. Submit something about a topic you are passionate about.
  4. Be sure to fact-check your papers and make sure all sources are clearly cited. Papers without proper citations (any style is acceptable; hyperlinks allowed) will NOT be considered.
  5. Op-Eds are allowed and encouraged. If you are interested in Op-Ed writing, consider joining our staff!
